35mm SINGAPORE
Over the years, I've collected many film photographs of my home country, capturing my favourite things about it. I love film photography for the way it forces one to be thoughtful and not careless about their photos - to be patient and precise. I'm sure other photographers can relate to experiencing a moment - be it with your friends or seeing something that was just screaming out to you to be captured - that made you choose to take a photo of it on a film camera rather than a phone or digital camera. Some things are just so special to you that they are worth the loading of the film, the manual adjustment of shutter speed and aperture, the waiting for the other 35 exposures to be used, the $12 paid for development, and the final reveal of the photo you took months ago that brings you instantly back to that film-worthy moment.
I feel that way a lot in Singapore. Each photo in this series has been taken on my dad's hand-me-down film camera. Some photos in this series may seem awfully normal and completely unspectacular, but isn't that the whole point?
